ERIC D. SNIDER TO PERFORM MUSIC AND COMEDY SIMULTANEOUSLY
‘How is It Done?’ Marvel Scientists
Eric D. Snider, the Utah-based writer, critic, humorist, raconteur, bon vivant, man-about-town and unicyclist, will perform “Une Soiree Musical avec Eric D’Snider,” his show of comedy songs and anecdotes, on Monday, Feb. 9.
The show will be at the ComedySportz venue, 36 W. Center St., Provo. Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $5. Doors open at 7:30.
Accompanying himself on the piano, Eric sings of love, pop culture, Utah culture, inappropriate swimwear, and movies, among other things. His songs have been heard on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento radio show, and his recent CD, “Will Make Jokes for Food,” has sold literally dozens of copies. Dozens!
Though Eric has performed his cabaret show several times in the past, he promises this performance will include several brand-new songs, in addition to old favorites.
“Even people who have seen me so often they are sick to death of me ought to come,” Eric said as he opened a thesaurus. “The new material will surely cure them of their ennui.”
Among the new songs are ones addressing air travel in a post-9/11 world, “Lord of the Rings” fans, and the life and times of Darth Vader.
Old favorites include “Piano Man,” discussing what it’s like to be a pianist when you’re also a Mormon; “Since My Best Friend Got Engaged,” about what marriage does to a guy; and “The General Authorities Song,” in which Eric sings the names of all the current general authorities of the LDS Church (respectfully, of course) (and quickly).
Eric worked for several years in journalism as a critic and columnist, best known for his “Snide Remarks” column, which earned him fame and stern glares from administrators at Brigham Young University from 1997-1999. From 1999-2003, he wrote “Snide Remarks” for a Provo-based daily newspaper that has subsequently been purchased by the Church of Satan.
