Greetings from Telluride! I say that because that is where I am right now. Specifically, I’m at the Telluride Film Festival. But this town is so beautiful that it’s a waste of beauty to come here and then sit indoors all day watching movies. Film festivals should only be held in ugly cities. That’s why I appreciate South By Southwest so much.
Anyway, here’s the non-Telluride stuff I excreted this week.
“Lawless” B
“Killer Joe” B+
“The Good Doctor” B+
“The Tall Man” C
New to Me: “The Night of the Hunter” (1955). My new column at Pajiba gives me a chance to watch classics I’ve never seen before and share my enthusiasm for them with you, the reader. [Pajiba]
Eric’s Bad Movies: “Lock Up” (1989). Sylvester Stallone goes to prison! Don’t worry, though. He’s still the good guy. [Film.com]
Re-Views: “Big Trouble” (2002). Barry Sonnenfeld’s “Get Shorty”-like crime comedy, based on a Dave Barry novel, sort of got forgotten. [Film.com]
Pitch Meeting: “The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure.” I hid some microphones in the studio office and got this transcript. [Film.com]
My ideas for follow-ups to “Beached,” which is about a fat kid raised by whales. [Movies.com]
Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider: Good heavens, we reviewed a poopload of movies this week. They include: “Lawless,” “Killer Joe,” “Sleepwalk with Me,” “Cosmopolis,” “2 Days in New York,” and “Oslo, August 31st.” Listen here.
